This stream story for Scioto Big Run has a different format than our other descriptions. It is an ArcGIS Story map and work of the Spring 2026 Capstone Student project. Explore and follow this link
As you scroll down the page you’ll find an interactive map of the Scioto Big Run watershed. You can either follow the descriptions on the side bar and see their locations on the map, or you can click on the map points and get descriptions. You can also enlarge the interactive map and view all the tributaries to Scioto Big Run and see their location with respect to Columbus roads.
The Task bar below the image guides you to interactive maps of the landcover and impervious surfaces and how they changed between 1985 and 2004. Very informative! Next there is an interactive map showing stream segments in different colors, click on a segment and get some information about that location (“RM” river mile) and Ohio EPA determine fish score indicator for the water quality (“IBI_MostRecent”), in addition to some stream identifier information. Note that none of the branch tributaries to the main stem of Scioto Big Run have been studied by the Ohio EPA.
Finally, the top Task bar leads you to addition descriptions about “An Urban Watershed”, “What Can You Do?”, references and credits for the students who did this work.
